Carroll Shelby's 1969 GT-500 Convertible Goes for $675,000 at Barrett-Jackson
It's official. Carroll Shelby's 1969 Shelby GT-500 Convertible Mustang was sold today at the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Scottsdale, Ariz. for a winning bid of $675,000. The car belonged exclusively to Carroll Shelby until it was sold at this year's auction. It was recently restored under the direction of Stephen Becker. Shelby was in attendance and personally gave the new owner, Ron Pratte, keys to the car. Pratte purchased Shelby's personal Cobra Supersnake (Lot#1301) at last year's event for more than $5 million.
Patrick Dempsey's No. 156 2005 Ford Mustang FR500C race car was also sold today for a winning bid of $200,000. Dempsey was on hand at today's event signing autographs and talking about his love of all things Ford Mustang with the guys at The SPEED Channel.
A one-of-a-kind 2008 Shelby GT500KR Mustang, featuring a glass roof, sold today for a winning bid of $550,000. The car came with a special Shelby edition Fender Stratocaster guitar. The buyer of this Mustang was Ron Pratte, who purchased Shelby's convertible earlier in the day. All proceeds from the sale of this car will be donated to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
One of my favorites, a low serial number (Serial #69) 1965 Shelby GT350 sold for $420,000 at today's event. The car, Lot #1293, was in almost perfect condition. Needless to say, it was an exciting day for both Mustang enthusiasts and collectors alike.
