Ford Recalls 470,000 Mustangs to Update Air Bags
According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Ford has recalled potentially 470,000 Mustangs, years 2005-2008, due to a concern with the front-passenger air bag. A recall notice on the NHTSA's Website said small females riding in the front-passenger seat, without a seat belt on, could be at an increased risk of neck injury if the seat were to be in the full forward position during air bag deployment.
An article in the Canadian press notes that no injuries or accidents have been tied to the recall. Owners will be asked to bring their vehicles in so dealers can reprogram the vehicle's restraint control module free of charge. Ford will contact owners in early March, according to the report. Customers can also contact the NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or go to http://www.safercar.gov.
