Ford Reports 9 Millionth Mustang Built

Thursday April 24, 2008
Yesterday Ford Motor Company announced it has built the 9 Millionth Ford Mustang. The car, a GT Convertible, is on its way to a dealership in Iowa. In a press release issued by the company, Ford reported that one of every two sports cars sold in America is a Mustang. The Mustang is also Ford Motor Company’s longest-running nameplate.

Although sales of the Ford Mustang have been on the decline in the past year, you shouldn't have a hard time finding one on the street. In fact, last night I spotted more than a dozen 5th Generation Mustangs, five 4th Generation Mustangs, and three 1st Generation Mustangs on my commute home here in Los Angeles. Not bad considering my commute is about 15 miles from start to finish. Of course, here in L.A. traffic, that translates to about an hour of seat time behind the wheel. Twenty Mustangs per hour. I like that.
