A Weekend of Mustang Racing
It seems there's a lot going on in Mustang racing these days. Just this weekend Ford gave spectators at Road America a glimpse of the new 2010 Ford Mustang as it rolled onto the track as an official pace car. Of course it was camoflauged, but still an impressive sight indeed. This is the same place where Carroll Shelby's team was racing four authentic Shelby 427 Cobras. Rumor has it Shelby may soon be racing Mustangs again. How cool is that?
On Saturday Mustangs took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place at the KONI Challenge race at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala. Quite a feat on a track that has never been that Mustang friendly. Especially when you're competing against the likes of Porsche’s and BMW’s.
And out on the West coast we had the Redline TimeAttack! 'Muscle Car' Series which took place at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana. Barber Driving Experience was on hand to give driving instruction to students in several performance S197 Mustangs. It made for a great weekend of racing for all in attendance.
All this talk of Mustangs and racing brings one word to mine; performance. Some folks use their Mustangs to bring home the groceries while others use them to bring home trophies. Mustangs truly are versatile machines.
