Ford Mustang Sales Down 48% in October
The numbers are in and it isn't pretty. In October of this year Ford sold 4,686 Mustangs. Last October they sold 9,156 units. That's a 48.8 percent decline in sales. For the year as a whole, Ford is in the hole by -29.8 percent. One look at the numbers and you'll see a decline. In 2007 Ford moved 118,959 Mustangs by November. This year Ford has moved only 83,557 of the company's pony cars.
No doubt, things sure have changed over the years. In 1966 Ford moved 607,568 Mustangs. That's almost six times as many Mustangs as they sold last year. Are people holding off on buying a new Mustang until the 2010 model is released, or are people simply not in the market to buy a new car? Even worse, have people lost interest in the Mustang all together. My point of view is biased as I'm a long-time Mustang enthusiast. What about folks who walk into a dealership knowing nothing about the Mustang. They see a Mustang and a Focus. Are these people turning away from Ford's long-standing pony car?
I hate to be all gloom and doom, but Mustang sales figures have been on the slide for some time now. Will the 2010 Mustang turn things around? It sure would be nice to see the Mustang on Ford's list of sales highlights again.
