The Coyote: Return of the 5.0L Mustang?

Wednesday January 21, 2009
Ford's Coyote 5.0L V8 EngineSeems some folks out there are talking about a 5.0L engine in an upcoming Mustang again. This time around they're calling the engine the 5.0-liter four-valve V-8 "Coyote". See this photo? It's said to be the elusive "Coyote" taken by Brian Williams over at Brenda Priddy & Co.

PickupTrucks.com says the engine will appear in the new 2011 Ford F-150. They also suggest it will be an offering for the 2011 Ford Mustang. The engine is said to produce 400 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. That could really give the competition a run for their money, right? The Dodge Challenger R/T is said to produce 372 hp and 401 lb-ft. torque while the Camaro SS is predicted to produce upwards of 422 hp. As for me, I can't wait to see 5.0 badging on a Mustang again. Take me back to simpler times when muscle cars ruled the roost!

I can’t wait to see a 5.0 in a Mustang too, the 4.6 sucks ass. At least GM still knows there is no replacement for displacement. And they get better gas mileage with bigger displacements. Be American and buy American Cars. If you are a foreigner, buy American.

Chevy, not that I’m biased or anything, but I strongly disagree! The Camaro and Challenger were both pulled from their manufacturer’s lineups, in part due to lackluster sales. True, both are now back in production. That said, the Mustang hasn’t missed a single model year since its release back in April of 1964. The car has staying power. It’s a proven winner both on and off the track, time and time again.

Car and Driver recently conducted a comparison test featuring the Camaro SS, Challenger R/T, and Mustang GT. You should check it out!

Alright the 5.0 is back in the Mushtang. Shoulde easily beat the new Camaro SS? hmm, let me see her Shelby GT500 justs get into the 12’s versus the SS which has less HP, IRS and is only just a few ticks behind.

Hope for a supercharger, since that is the only way Ford can make higher HP these days. How brilliant of they’re engine labs.

Considering you can’t even spell “their” properly Cameron, it makes it sort of difficult to buy into your pathetic argument.

Considering the 2010 Mustang GT with only 315 HP is less than half a second behind in the 0-60 from the 422 HP Camaro, AND the GT BEATS the Camaro in identical track tests (real driving, not just drag), it shows that the Mustang is better engineered.

The Mustang is also 300 pounds lighter, and the all-aluminum Coyote will maintain that weight advantage, while bumping the power up to the SS range. Same car, still weighs less, way more power…. see ya later SS!

The 2010 Mustang GT will dominate the SS in every way possible. Guaranteed.

Well, looks like Mustang will continue to dominate pony car sales for along time. You just can’t beat the blue oval. GO FORD.
