Camaro Owners Make Up For Lost Time While Mustang Holds its Own

Tuesday July 7, 2009

2010 Camaro and 2010 MustangWell folks, the muscle car trash talk is heating up. Talk around town is that the new 2010 Chevrolet Camaro outsold the Ford Mustang in June. No doubt, Chevy's new Camaro did outsell the Mustang by 1,958 models in June. Chevrolet sold 9,320 Camaros while Ford sold 7,362 Mustangs.

Not to rain on Chevy's parade, but how many Camaros did they sell last June? Oh, that's right, Chevy didn't offer a Camaro last June! Meanwhile Ford sold 10,893 Mustangs. In fact, the Chevrolet Camaro has been off the market since 2002. And the Mustang, well, it never went away. We're talking 45 plus years of Mustang sales. While Mustang enthusiasts have been constantly fed new models over the past four decades, the Camaro folks had to go without for a few years. Now that the car has returned, they're lined up at Chevy dealerships trying to make up for lost time.

All things considered, I'm happy to see the Camaro back in the mix. This renewed interest adds even more to a long-standing rivalry dating back to the late 60s. Meanwhile, Dodge sold 1,369 Challengers in June.

Let’s face it, it’s not like the Camaro outsold the Mustang by a landslide. According to some folks, the new Camaro is as popular as Michael Jackson Memorial tickets. Get out of town!

I’m not surprised that Camaro outsold Mustang at this moment in time. Though the new, really sharp Mustang has a certain novelty to it, the Camaro, having been out of production has a gigantic novelty factor, creating sales in a big way. The question will be: Will those big numbers be sustainable once the cars start appearing regularly in everyone’s sight. Personally as someone who has owned 3 mustangs and 5 Camaros, I find that this Camaro is way overdone. It’s trunk is useless, the dashboard driver’s binnacles are hideous and the interior is too plain. Performance wise they are pretty equal. My choice is easily the 2010 Mustang (6 cyl/stick).

As Island Don said i think he is wrong. the power in the camaro is way better. the mustang is a useless piece of metal and interior parts. i would never invest in such a piece of crap. line up a new mustang vs a new camaro and you will witness the mustang getting spanked.

Are you kidding? The new Camaros are already falling apart! http://www.autoblog.com/2009/05/06/report-gm-voluntarily-recalling-camaro-for-battery-cable-issue/
