Looking back, 2012 was a pretty good year for Mustang sales. In all, the company sold 82,995 Mustangs. That's a sales increase of 17.8 percent over the 70,438 Mustangs Ford sold in 2011. Even better, Mustang closed in on its main rival, the Chevrolet Camaro.
While the Camaro maintained its "King of Pony Car Sales" status last year, it just barely made the cut. In all, the company sold 84,319 Camaros in 2012, down from the 88,249 they sold in 2011. That's only 1,324 more Camaros sold than Mustangs. It's easy to see Ford's pony car is closing the gap.
What will 2013 bring? Well, I imagine we're about to see things get really interesting. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see Ford's Mustang "King of Pony Car Sales" at the end of the year. Read more.
