In 2007 ROUSH Performance unveiled their ROUSH P-51A Mustang at the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Well, another year has passed and another ROUSH creation has been unleashed. This time around Roush enthusiasts are welcomed by news of a 2009 ROUSH P-51B Mustang.

As with the original 2008 model, the new P-51B is said to produce an impressive 510 hp and 510 lb.-ft. of torque. Can you say fast? The Mustang will also continue to sport the yellow and red checkerboard accents as seen on the original P-51A. The color scheme was selected as a way for ROUSH to pay homage to pilots of the 357th Fighters Group, Eighth Air Force ETO (European Theater Operations), otherwise known as “The Yoxford Boys”. Word is these guys flew 313 combat missions between February 11, 1944 and April 25, 1945, destroying approximately 595.5 German airplanes in the air and 106.5 on the ground.

In a press statement Jack Roush said, “The 2009 ROUSH P-51B is really the closest thing we can do to truly match the performance and styling of the fighter plane. Just like the airplane, the P-51B Mustang has the power to outrun most anything, can turn like virtually nothing else, and will make those other ‘pilots’ have second thoughts before engaging in a skirmish.” One thing that makes the P-51B Mustang so special is its engine. According to ROUSH, the car is equipped with stronger forged aluminum pistons, stronger forged steel H-Beam connecting rods, and a stronger forged steel crankshaft than that found on a stock 4.6L GT Mustang. The car also touts an upgraded high-capacity fuel delivery system, a performance clutch, and an ECM that is custom calibrated to work with the car’s TVS2300 ROUSHcharger.

Although the P-51B Mustang is similar to the P-51A, there are differences. For instance, the 2009 car rides on new Cooper RS3 ultra-high performance tires fitted onto new 18-inch black chrome rims. It features ROUSH 6-piston brakes and its interior boasts a ROUSH vent pod gauge with a boost gauge. On, and the car will also feature a secondary accessory drive belt system, otherwise known as a secondary sheave FEAD. This is a belt designed solely to assist the car’s Supercharger. They can be found on older 2001-2004 ROUSH Stage 3 Mustangs.

New Features

  • Cooper RS3 ultra-high performance tires
  • New 18-inch black chrome rims and locking lug nuts
  • ROUSH 6-Piston brakes
  • Interior ROUSH Vent Pod Gauge with Boost Gauge
  • Secondary Sheave FEAD
Other features of the car include its ROUSH Stage 3™ suspension and a rear decklid black-out panel. Then there’s the ROUSH P-51B Painted Hood Stripe and the car’s six-piece ROUSH aerobody kit. For that added touch, ROUSH says the Ford factory Vapor paint code will be accented with Olive Drab green badging to match the World War II motif. On the inside the car boasts a shifter ball, leather seats, and floor mats featuring the P-51B logo.

Optional equipment includes a ROUSH trunk tool kit and an enhanced ROUSH resonator exhaust. Oh, and get this. You can also opt for the optional Escort Passport 9500ci radar/laser detector. ROUSH thought of almost everything didn’t they? Honestly, if you plan to push this car to its limits, you’ll probably need one.

As for pricing , ROUSH says the car will have an MSRP of $65,800 including destination fees and gas guzzler taxes. It also comes with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. The company plans to build 51 of the cars.
