In the Fall of 2008, Ford Motor Company partnered with Fender to produce a special limited-edition 45th Anniversary Mustang Fender Acoustic Guitar. The launch of this guitar coincided with the release of the 2009 Ford Mustang, which celebrates its 45th anniversary on April 17, 2009.
The 45th Anniversary Mustang guitar is based on Fender’s California edition Sonoran acoustic/electric guitar. As such, the guitar can be played as a stand-alone acoustic or it can be plugged into an electric guitar amp. It touts a classic Stratocaster headstock with a c-shaped maple neck and features a top made of solid spruce. It also touts white dot inlays, a rosewood fingerboard, and a polyurethane finish.
Special features of the anniversary guitar include an orange and yellow colored running horse prominently featured on the guitar’s top as well as “45th Anniversary” graphics on the guitar’s headstock. The flip side of the headstock features the Ford logo. Most noticeable is the word MUSTANG in cursive writing featured at the bottom of the guitar’s top. The guitar also comes with a certificate of authenticity.
As the proud owner of one of these Mustang Anniversary guitars, I can honestly say I was pleasantly surprised by the sound this guitar creates. It produces a nice tone and has a clean overall sound. Best of all the action on the fret board is smooth and fast, just like a Ford Mustang. Whether you play the guitar or not, this is a worthy addition to any Mustang collector’s collection. This limited edition guitar, of which 300 were made, retails for $399 and is offered as part of the officially licensed Ford Collection.
