An Easy Shine Between Waxes

Nothing bugs me more than a dirty Mustang. I mean, really, if you’re going to own a pony car (or any car for that matter), you need to keep it clean. As such, I wash my car once a week and I wax it about once a month. The washing in the easy part. The waxing takes a bit of time, but I enjoy it. I consider the process time spent working towards a worthwhile cause. The wax protects my Mustang’s exterior and gives it an awesome shine.

Recommendation from a Friend

Recently a buddy of mine stopped by and recommended I try an instant detailer between waxes. He noticed a few water marks on my ride and recommended I give Mothers California Gold Showtime Instant Detailer a shot. The company says the product can be used to clean off fingerprints, smudges and dust, and hide minor imperfections and spider-webbing. I’m familiar with the product but had never used it on my Mustang. My friend swears by the product and uses it regularly on his car.

Later in the week I stopped off at my local auto supply retailer and picked up a 16 fl. oz. bottle for $5.67 plus tax. I drove my Mustang home, parked in the shade, and got down to business.

Using the Product

To use the product, you first spray the detailer onto a small area of the Mustang. It's best to work in small sections so you don't lose track of where to buff. Then you distribute the product evenly using a soft terry cloth or a micro-fiber towel. As a final step you use a dry area of the towel to buff the product out. I began at the hood of my Mustang and worked my way around the car. In about 10 minutes I had completely finished detailing the entire vehicle.

In using this detailer, I noticed a few things right off the bat. First, and most importantly, Mothers California Gold Showtime Instant Detailer isn’t messy. The nozzle is precise which means the product ends up where you aim and not all over your car like some detailers I’ve used in the past. In addition, the detailer is a clear liquid color. It hazes ever so slightly after you distribute it onto the car. Bottom line: You can clearly see where you need to buff but you don't have to deal with messy leftover residue if you accidentally miss a spot. This is a plus in my book. Also, the product buffs out easily on cars that still have a bit of wax on them. This means little effort is required to get a great shine. Mothers recommends you give the car a complete waxing if the Showtime detailer is slow to buff out.

Mothers California Gold Showtime: The Final Take

In all, I was pleased with the results. The Mothers Showtime detailer did the job. My Mustang is visual proof. Although Mothers California Gold Showtime Instant Detailer isn’t an alternative to regular waxing, it is a great product to use between waxes. As with any waxing product, you should always make sure you apply the product to a cool surface. Direct sunlight and hot surfaces should be avoided, as these conditions can cause the product to dry too fast. In addition, this product does not take the place of regular washings. Do yourself a favor and clean your pony car regularly before you decide to detail the exterior!
