In 2007 Korum Ford, located in Puyallup Wash., and Auto FX, located in Tacoma Wash., began work on a custom 2007 Mustang GT that would end up being displayed at fairs and shows all over the state.
A year later this one-of-a-kind Purple Heart Mustang became the grand prize in a contest open to combat-wounded veterans. Out of the 211 veterans who were nominated, 12 were selected as finalists. One finalist, former Tech. Sgt. Kevin Whalen of the Washington Air National Guardsman, was randomly selected as the lucky winner of the car. Whalen, who fought courageously while serving his country in Afghanistan, is a recipient of the Purple Heart Award. On September 11, 2008, Whalen became the owner of the Purple Heart Mustang at the Puyallup fair. See photos of this special one-of-a-kind Pony ride.
