One such destination for enthusiasts of the Ford Mustang is MyMustangSite.Com. Founded in July of 2006, this social networking site offers blogs, photo uploads, and personal pages for every member. In all, the site is a lot like Myspace, just for Mustang Enthusiasts. Users can make friends with other users and add them to their friends list. They can create photo galleries, create custom layouts for their personal pages, or even write blogs. Best of all the site has a friendly vibe. Within a few hours of creating my own custom page, other members stopped by to welcome me aboard. Oh, and not just any members. I’m talking about members with some amazing pony rides. I spent a few hours just checking out all the sharp looking Mustangs on the site.
Recently I had a chance to talk with the site’s owner and founder, Chris. In our interview Chris explains the site, its members, and his vision behind one of the hottest Mustang social networking sites around.
About.Com Mustangs: What prompted you to launch MyMustangSite.Com?
Chris: I created the site in July of 2006 with the goal of creating the ultimate Mustang community. For years, I had been an active member on various Mustang sites (Stangnet.com, Fordpower.com, Corral.net, etc.) To me, these sites all started to feel the same to me. So my goal was to create a Mustang site like no other.
About.Com Mustangs: How long did it take you to get everything lined up?
Chris: It took about a week to get the site organized, but I am continually tweaking and adding stuff to it all the time.
About.Com Mustangs: Have you always been a Mustang enthusiast?
Chris: Yes. I wanted to buy one when I was 16, but I ended up with a truck. When I was 18, I just happened to drop by the Ford dealership to see the brand new "New Edge" Mustang and fell in love with a Dark Satin Green GT. I knew it was what I wanted to moment I saw it.
About.Com Mustangs: Do you have a favorite year of Mustang?
Chris: It is hard to pick. Obviously I like my ‘99, but my dad has a blown ‘66 which is pretty sweet. I would like to buy a Fastback later down the road.
About.Com Mustangs: What’s your favorite mod featured on your current Mustang?
Chris: The 2001 Cobra engine that is swapped in place of the 2V.
About.Com Mustangs: What’s the most popular feature on your site (video, message boards, and photo galleries)?
Chris: I would have to say the photo gallery and the ability to use Myspace layout codes on the user’s personal pages.
About.Com Mustangs: Do you have members on your site from all across the country? Any International members?
Chris: Most are from the U.S. and some are from Canada. I have seen some from Australia as we as a few from European countries.
About.Com Mustangs: How many members do you currently have?
Chris: Currently 8500+, but lately I have been getting anywhere from 15-30 new members daily.
