In 1983, a guy by the name of Steve Saleen founded Saleen Autosport. He might not have known it at the time, but this former race car driver was on his way to making Mustang history. Years later, the name Saleen and Mustang conjure up images of horsepower, performance, and unique styling. As such, the company, now Saleen Incorporated, is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2008 with the creation of a special-edition Mustang; the Saleen SA-25 Sterling Edition. Although Steve Saleen is no longer a part of the company, the tradition continues. This limited-edition pony car has plenty of power and performance ability. Not only that, but it has great looks to match. Most notably, it features a silver-themed interior and exterior trim package.

Anniversary-Edition Mustangs

Anniversary-edition Mustangs are nothing new for Saleen. In 1988 they produced the SA-5. In 1993 the SA-10 anniversary-edition Mustang was created. In 1998 Saleen introduced the SA-15. The last anniversary-edition Saleen was the SA-20 in 2003, of which 10 were made. According to Saleen, the new SA-25 Mustang is the most powerful of them all, boasting 620 hp and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, all courtesy of the supercharged engine found in the S302 Extreme. This time around, 25 of the cars are to be built.

It’s Sharp, But it Will Cost You

The 2008 Saleen SA-25 Sterling Edition Mustang is a car truly priced for royalty. At an estimated cost of $99,995, most folks will find the SA-25 a bit out of their price range. Then again, this isn’t just any Mustang. The SA-25 will someday be a prized piece of Saleen history. But really, all sweet talk aside, what do you get for $100,000? Well, for starters you’ll have an extremely limited edition Mustang that only a few others have. Not only that, but Saleen will fly you to Detroit, first class they say, where you’ll have dinner with Saleen Executives. The trip includes limousine transportation and a tour of the Saleen factory. Best of all you’ll receive a custom leather jacket as part of your outing. Have they won you over yet? The bottom line; for $100,000 the company wants to treat you right, and rightfully so. $100,000 is in no way chump change.

Interior and Exterior Features

In regard to looks, there’s no doubt about it, the Saleen SA-25 is visually appealing, both inside and out. Some features of the Mustang include “Gun Sight” racing stripes, anniversary fender signs, and 5-spoke forged custom wheels. The interior of the vehicle boasts Black Diamond alcantara seats with leather accents, a push-button electric start ignition, and a special serialized plaque. The car also comes with a navigation system, as well as Saleen’s standard set of interior upgrades.

In all, the Saleen SA-25 comes off as an extremely refined S302 Extreme. Plan to see it become available sometime in 2008. In the meantime, prospective buyers should seriously consider socking away their money, unless of course you’re already royalty. In that case, maybe you should buy two; one for you and one for me.
