Designed as a true “sleeper” car, this visually toned down pony is based on the 2010 Ford Mustang GT. Aside from its ROUSH rear decklid spoiler in the back and subtle tone-on-tone striping package, the car is all business. “The new ROUSH 540RH is really intended to be a ‘sleeper’ car,” said company founder Jack Roush. “It will be purposely built with minimal content as it was designed for the buyer who wanted the ROUSH horsepower but with a blank canvas that can be customized into their own personal one-of-a-kind ride.”
Take a peek under its hood and you’ll find the same Ford 4.6L 3-valve engine featured in the 2009 ROUSH P-51B Mustang. According to ROUSH Performance, ROUSH technicians had to replace many of the internal components in the stock engine with stronger parts including forged aluminum pistons (with an increased dish to lower the compression ratio from 9.8 to 8.6), forged steel H-Beam connecting rods and a forged steel crankshaft. The end result? We’re talking 540 hp and 510 lb.-ft. of torque.
Additional modifications include upgraded fuel injectors and fuel pump along with a custom-calibrated ECM to manage the performance of the car’s R2300 ROUSHcharger. The 540RH also comes equipped with a performance clutch and a short throw shifter with a choice of white or black ball.
The suspension on the 540RH has also been modified. ROUSH equipped the car with a new suspension package which includes front and rear springs, front and rear stabilizer bars, and jounce bumpers. The car also comes with an anti-wheel hop kit installed during the assembly process.
So how much will this bad boy set you back? Well, ROUSH Performance says the suggested retail starts at $46,145 when built on a base Ford Mustang GT chassis. This price is based on current Ford incentives. The car is covered by a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty and will be available with a manual transmission only. You should begin seeing these ROUSH Mustangs on dealer lots in October.
