On March 28, 2009, Jason Heinz hosted the 5th Annual Get Out of The Cold Mustang event at the Maryland International Raceway (MIR) in Budds Creek, Md. The event dates back to March of 2005 when Heinz decided to get all of his online Mustang friends together in one place. Jason’s solution was a car show that combined shiny Mustangs with good conversation amongst friends. The event has become a yearly tradition.
About the Event
This year’s event was to include another day of sharp looking Mustang eye candy and pony car racing. Unfortunately rain moved into the area, forcing the cancellation of the racing portion. In spite of this minor setback, Mustang enthusiasts from places such as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland made their way to the raceway to show off their cars and talk to others in attendance.
Event Founder Jason Heinz said, “Only 26 Mustangs made it out to this year’s event. It wasn’t the economy that had the negative impact, it was the bad weather. We had three days of rain before the event. The track called me on Friday, just before lunch, asking if I wanted to move the event to their rain date. Of course Get Out of the Cold is more than just racing, it is about online friends meeting up in real life.” So in the spirit of camaraderie, the event was held as scheduled. Heinz added, “MIR was nice enough to allow us to meet in their driveway. So I had everyone park along the sides.”
As for the day’s events, Heinz said, “Seeing all my online friends and meeting new ones was my favorite part of the event. We all had a great lunch and a good dinner. Another highlight was watching everyone demonstrate how loud their exhausts where when they were leaving. Some were very impressive!” Heinz added that the event also featured a Best in Show award.
The 2010 Show
Although several portions of the event were canceled this year due to bad weather, Heinz says the show will be held again next year on Saturday March 27, 2010. “I will be probably not attending the 2010 event, due to my work”, said Heinz. “However, we will still be holding the event at MIR in 2010. Without them we couldn’t have as much fun as we did have.
