San Francisco Bullitt Tour
Go back in time by taking a tour of Lt. Frank Bullitt’s San Francisco. You can follow his exact chase scene route, or drive by his apartment. A bit of advice. I’ve heard the self guided tour is even better if you’re driving a Highland Green 1968 GT390!
Telstar Mustang, Cobra, & Shelby Museum
This museum features at least one Shelby Mustang from every year and model of production. While you’re there, you can browse through the various restored Mustangs for sale. Who knows, you might go home with a new ride! Interesting to note, all the Cobra and Shelby titles have been autographed by Carroll Shelby. Guided Tours are given. Appointments are recommended.
Foose Design Shop Tour
Chances are you’ve seen him on TV, and you’ve seen his custom-built Foose Mustangs. Why not stop by Chip’s shop? Tours are given Monday through Friday at Noon.
Gateway Colorado Auto Museum
This road trip destination is located in the canyons of Western Colorado. Even better, it’s right next to the Gateway Canyons Resort. It's the perfect place to stop after a long day on the road. The museum features an immaculate 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang, as well as a 2006 "Stallion" Chip Foose Mustang. Of note, the Stallion on display was the first one produced, and is listed as number #001.
Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum
Ford, and its Mustang, has been very active in NHRA racing. Stop by the NHRA Motorsports museum, which features an impressive array of vintage and historical racing vehicles –- nearly 50 at the Grand Opening -- along with photographs, trophies, helmets and driving uniforms, artifacts, paintings, and other memorabilia chronicling more than 50 years of American motorsports.
Attend a Mustang Grand National Show
Each year the Mustang Club of America hosts a Grand National Show. In 2012, the show happens to take place in Mustang, Oklahoma. What better location for a Mustang show? The event runs August 31st through September 2nd. If you attend, be prepared to be surrounded by all things Mustang for several action packed days of fun in the sun.
Attend Mustang Week
Another big Mustang event, worthy of a road trip, is the yearly Mustang Week festivities in Myrtle Beach. This year’s event runs from July 16 – 22nd. It’s a week long journey full of Mustang activities, sleeping in, and having fun!
