Do you find yourself talking about Mustangs to strangers on the street? Do people say you pay too much attention to your pony car? If this describes you, chances are it's time you consider joining a Mustang Club.

What exactly is a Mustang Club? It's a place where like-minded enthusiasts share their admiration of the Ford Mustang. Many clubs offer weekend drives or sponsor local car shows. Others offer their members track time at local race tracks. In all, Ford estimates there are approximately 250 enthusiast clubs devoted to the Ford Mustang. Some are big, and some are small, but the largest by far is the Mustang Club of America. The club has more than 170 local chapters, in places such as United States, Canada, and abroad. In fact, even I am a member of this worldwide organization. Chances are there’s a Mustang Club of America near you.

In general, there are almost as many different Mustang clubs are there are members looking to join one. Let's say you're looking for a club that's focused exclusively on a specific type of Mustang. You'll find clubs dedicated to classic Mustangs, late-model Mustangs, convertible Mustangs, even Shelby Mustangs. Shelby Owners of America, Inc., for instance, is one such club dedicated to owners of the Shelby Mustang. And what about those of you looking to join a club outside the United States? Well, you're in luck. Clubs can be found all across the world in places such as England, France, Netherlands, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, and South Africa.

So, how do you go about finding a club? The first, and by far most popular way, is to attend a local Mustang show in your neighborhood. Mustang shows are often organized by Mustang Clubs, and those that aren't almost always feature club members as attendees. Find a show in your local area and introduce yourself to club members. Strike up a conversation about your favorite pony car. Then ask what is required to become a member. Most clubs will invite you to attend one of their meetings so you can learn more. Other clubs will offer to sign you up on the spot.

Tips For Joining a Mustang Club

  • Ask a Current Member
  • Attend a Local Mustang Show
  • Find a Club Online
  • Find a Club in Your Phone Book
  • Start Your Own Club and Recruit Members

Another way to join a Mustang club is to look one up online. There are various directories dedicated to helping connect Mustang enthusiasts with clubs in their area. Once you find what you're looking for, find out when the club meets. Contact the club and introduce yourself. Then attend a meeting to see if the club if for you. It's true, not all clubs will suit every Mustang enthusiast. However, I've found Mustang enthusiasts to be some of the nicest people in the automotive community. So what are you waiting for? Join a Mustang club today!
